NEW ENTRY ON THE LIST IN 2021
SelfControl is a free and open-source application for macOS that lets you block your own access to distracting websites, your mail servers, or anything else on the Internet. Just set a period of time to block for, add sites to your blacklist, and click “Start.” Until that timer expires, you will be unable to access those sites—even if you restart your computer or delete the application.

Comments on SelfControl in 2021
“You don’t use this tool for learning. You use this tool to avoid distriction while you are learning. You add websites to a blocklist or allowlist. Next, you specify a time period in which you do not want to be distracted. During this time you cannot visit the websites on the blocklist, or you can only visit the websites on the allowlist. You are in control about when you start the app, how long you want to use it and which websites you can visit during this time. Unfortunately it is not possible to add applications to the list. And you still need to avoid using the smartphone or tablet.” Wilfred Rubens, E-Learning Advisor, Netherlands, 2021
